Lionel Messi has gone viral after his memorable response to the Mexican crowd during Inter Miami's pre-season opener, which ended in a dramatic victory.

The David Beckham-owned club triumphed 3-2 on penalties against Liga MX giants Club América at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with Messi once again finding the back of the net as expected.

Inter Miami's equalizer in the 34th minute showcased the brilliance of the former Barcelona trio—Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Jordi Alba.

Alba delivered a precise cross to Suárez at the back post, and the Uruguayan star lofted the ball across the goal, setting up Messi for a perfectly timed header.

The goal came just three minutes after reigning Mexican champions Club América took the lead, with Henry Martín finishing a pass from former LAFC winger Brian Rodríguez.

Although the match was only a preseason friendly, the travelling Mexican crowd didn’t hold back, taunting Lionel Messi throughout the game.

However, his early equaliser gave the Argentine superstar the perfect chance to respond—and he did so in style.

Messi Makes Gesture Towards Club America Fans

After scoring 21 goals in 22 MLS appearances last season, finding the back of the net on Saturday night was business as usual for Lionel Messi.

However, this goal came with a twist, as the 37-year-old added a hint of provocation toward the opposing fans.

After heading the ball into the net, Messi turned to the Mexican crowd and made gestures that appeared to say:

'My country has three World Cups, and you? Zero.'

Messi was instrumental in Argentina's World Cup triumph, securing both the Ballon d'Or and the Golden Ball after their dramatic 2022 victory over France.

While the Argentine icon has traditionally let his exceptional performances do the talking, his later years have revealed a more outspoken side, as the seasoned veteran has shown a greater willingness to engage with fans attempting to rattle him.
