Shamrock Rovers/Cork City postponed 40 minutes before KO, Kilkenny/Limerick league also off

THIS AFTERNOON’S LEAGUE of Ireland Premier Division clash between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City at Tallaght Stadium was postponed 40 minutes before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch. 

The pitch passed an initial pitch inspection at 11.15am and a second at 4pm, ahead of a kick-off slated for 6pm. But a heavy downpour at approximately 4.30pm further waterlogged the pitch, and a postponement was confirmed around 40 minutes before kick-off. Hundreds of Cork City had travelled to Dublin for the game. 

The FAI say a new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

Elsewhere, today’s Allianz hurling national hurling league meeting of Kilkenny and Limerick was also postponed.

The Division 1A clash was due to throw-in at 1.45pm in UPMC Nowlan Park, but has now been postponed due to an unplayable pitch. The decision was made following a pitch inspection ahead of the game.

The fixture was due to be live on TG4, who will now provide coverage of the Division 1 National Football League game between Tyrone and Kerry [throw-in 1.45pm] instead.

An unplayable pitch at O’Moore Park has also forced the postponement of Laois v Carlow in Division 1B of the NHL.

The NHL Division 3 meeting of Cavan and Armagh has also fallen foul to the weather, and was postponed following a pitch inspection at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Elsewhere in Division 3, Wicklow v Roscommon has been moved from Echelon Park, Aughrim, to Bray, with a 2.30pm throw-in subject to a further pitch inspection at 12.30pm.

A pitch inspection took place at Tallaght Stadium at 11.15am today ahead of this evening’s League of Ireland Premier Division fixture between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City [KO 6pm].

The game was cleared to go ahead as planned following to a second pitch inspection at 4pm.
