NAN reports that despite the emphatic win, Nigeria narrowly missed out on automatic qualification as South Africa topped Group C with 18 points following a victory over Rwanda in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles now face the CAF playoffs, joining the three best second-placed teams across the nine qualifying groups.
The playoffs will feature a semifinal-final format, with winners advancing to a FIFA inter-confederation playoff for a potential tenth African World Cup spot.
The decisive second round of CAF qualifying will occur in Morocco from 10 to 18 November.
