BREAKING: Kwankwaso makes u-turn, endorses Governor Yusuf, NNPP members’ defection to APC
by Aaron Cole · Premium TimesIn a stunning reversal of his stance, former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has endorsed the planned defection of Governor Abba Yusuf and other elected Kano officials, from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressivea Congress (APC).
Mr Kwankwaso in short video clip posted by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, on Tuesday, announced a full endorsement of his party members’ decision to defect to the opposition, a move that has sent shockwaves through the state.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how Mr Kwankwaso, the leader of the NNPP in Kano, had maintained a hardline stance against the defection of Governor Yusuf and other elected and appointed officials from the NNPP in Kano. He accused the planned defectors of betraying the people of Kano who elected them.
In the latest video, Mr Kwankwaso said he endorsed the planned defection to the APC to allow officials to exercise their political rights and to ease the existing tension within NNPP members in the state.
By endorsing the defections, Mr Kwankwaso may be attempting to maintain a semblance of control over a situation that has already spiraled beyond his influence, effectively choosing to lead the parade rather than be trampled by it.
