World Cup Qualifier: Chukwueze confident Super Eagles will overpower Bafana in Bloemfontein
Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze says the Super Eagles have what it takes to beat South Africa and remain on course for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
by Tunde Eludini · Premium TimesSuper Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has expressed confidence that Nigeria will rise to the occasion when they face Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday in Bloemfontein.
Chukwueze, who recently completed a high-profile move from AC Milan to Premier League side Fulham, was an unused substitute in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo but is expected to get some minutes against South Africa.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes clash, the 25-year-old stressed that Nigeria’s focus remains firmly on securing maximum points to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
“South Africa is a strong team, they have a good team also. They are first in the group. We are Nigerians and we have a good team also, so we can compete with them,” Chukwueze told NFF TV.
The former Villarreal star highlighted the importance of teamwork, unity, and self-belief in the Super Eagles camp, urging Nigerians to rally behind the squad as they chase qualification.
“I think by the grace of God we want good results here. The most important thing for us is to come here and win. We are looking to focus on that. We will be at the World Cup, it’s 100% sure. But we all just need all Nigerian support for us. It’s not one person… we have so many great talents and we have to qualify. That’s the most important thing,” he added.
Nigeria currently sits third in Group C, trailing South Africa, who top the table with 16 points from seven matches. A victory at the Free State Stadium would see the Super Eagles close the gap on Bafana Bafana and strengthen their qualification hopes ahead of the final two fixtures.
With Victor Osimhen ruled out due to injury, all eyes will be on the likes of Ademola Lookman, Tolu Arokodare, Alex Iwobi, and Chukwueze to lead Nigeria’s attacking charge in Bloemfontein.
