Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to immediately carry out "powerful" attacks in Gaza.

He accused Hamas of violating the Gaza ceasefire after the group returned human remains that did not belong to missing Israeli hostages.

Israel said the remains were those of Ofir Tzarfati, whose body was already recovered nearly two years ago, calling the handover a "clear violation" of the US-brokered deal.

Hamas said it recovered another hostage's body Tuesday, but delayed the handover after Israel announced plans to strike Gaza.
