Tributes have been paid to BBC star Peter Grant, who has died following a short battle with cancer. His co-star on Radio Newcastle and Tees, Simon Logan, confirmed the sad news in a post to social media on Monday.

He wrote: "So very difficult to post that we have lost another radio legend and my great friend of 25 years. Peter Grant was a wonderful and talented person that was known for presenting radio and TV shows on many different platforms.

"RIP Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time. Thanks for the laughs and the great times Peter, everyone who knew you will miss you always."

During his radio career, he was also a familiar voice on Magic, Hallam FM, Durham FM, Radio Aire, TFM and Plymouth Sound, reports the Mirror.

Radio Newcastle broadcaster Alfie Joey said on Facebook: "Well this is sad. An old friend of mine from radioland has died. Peter Grant was great company and relentlessly positive. Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives.

"What an amazing outlook to have and to learn from. Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane & family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter."

Radio Tees producer Anthony Day tweeted: "My thoughts are with Peter and his family. I did my first ever radio car live with Peter on Boxing Day 2013 at the Seaburn dip @bbcnewcastle. I was very nervous but he put me at ease with his humour, fun and kindness. RIP."
