Jon Moss leaves SFA VAR manager role after less than TWO months as he declares 'I wish I could have stayed'

Jon Moss has left his role as the SFA' s VAR manager after less than two months in the role.

The video technology has been widely panned by Premiership bosses, players, pundits and fans alike since its introduction, with lengthy delays leaving match-going punters baffled and inconsistency still an issue despite whistlers getting a second look. Willie Collum, who was appointed as head of refereeing this summer, replacing Crawford Allan, has attempted to usher in a new era this season and installed Moss as VAR manager in a bid to iron out the problems still plaguing it.

However, the Hampden chiefs have now confirmed that Moss is leaving his role "to take up a senior position with another national association." The former English Premier League whistler stepped into the specialised role on August 7. Following the announcement, Moss said: “I have loved my short time at the Scottish FA and already I believe clubs, players, managers and supporters see a significant improvement under Willie’s leadership.

"Even though my time in Scotland has been short and sweet, I have loved working with the Scottish FA and the VAR team at Clydesdale House. I leave with only fond memories and a wish that I could have stayed for longer but this is an opportunity of a lifetime and I look forward to the new challenge, better equipped for it by my experience in Scotland.”

Refereeing supremo Collum added: “I am obviously disappointed to be losing Jon so quickly but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and his family and I wish him the very best on his new adventure.

“It is a measure of the esteem in which he is held in refereeing globally that he has been offered a top job in a different continent. The work he has undertaken with us as VAR manager has already strengthened our operation and we will begin the process of recruiting a replacement immediately.”
