Partick Thistle v Airdrie: Frizzell says Diamonds aiming to bounce back from 'massive dent to confidence' after cup exit

The Diamonds travel to Firhill today sitting rock bottom of the table with one win in 10 games

Airdrie skipper Adam Frizzell admits their shock SPFL Trust Trophy exit to East Kilbride last week has put a massive dent in their already battered confidence.

But he insists the depleted Diamonds must pull together in the face of adversity if they are to take anything from today's Championship clash at Partick.

Rock bottom of the table and without a win in their last 10 matches in all competitions, the Monklands men are struggling with injuries and will be without the likes of striker Aaron Reid, who tore his hamstring earlier this month, alongside other sidelined stars including player-boss Rhys McCabe, Mason Hancock, Aidan Wilson, Dean McMaster, Terrell Agyemang and Liam McStravick.

They are enduring a nightmare start to the campaign and Frizzell is desperate to get the Diamonds out of the doldrums.

He said: "I think it is clear the boys are low on confidence right now and that is when we are at our worst. We are at our best when we are playing free-flowing, attacking football and that's what we are striving to get back to.

"Last week was a massive dent to the boys and we were very poor. We were the holders and worked so hard to get that trophy last season so it was tough, but these things happen in football and we have to focus fully on the league.

"We are very low on bodies right now with injuries, but we can't use that as an excuse. You need to go with what you've got and Partick is a massive game for us.

"The ones who are fit need to dig in and go get a result for everyone in the squad and give us something to build on."

Partick are on a winless run themselves, having lost to Hamilton at the end of last month and recorded back-to-back draws with Livingston and Falkirk.

But Frizzell isn't reading too much into that. The midfielder added: "I don't think Patrick's form matters going into it, it is never an easy game there.

"Both teams are having a bit of a sticky patch. We know it is a big ask but we're hoping that the win we want comes this week. We are just trying to stay positive."
