Why is Rangers vs St Johnstone an 8pm kick off? Live stream and tv details for Ibrox Premiership clash

by · Daily Record

Last weekend's noon kick-off vs Hibs was too soon for Philippe Clement off the back of a European game.

This week he gets the extra time he craves with Rangers' clash against St Johnstone not taking place until 8pm. The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run takes place in Glasgow on the same day and it's morning start time, coupled with the route passing close to Ibrox meant just about every major road into the stadium will be close, ruling out a more traditional afternoon kick-off.

As Record Sport exclusively revealed last month, the SPFL were forced to consider an alternative, with 5pm and 8pm starts considered. The latter was the choice in the end, meaning a late finish to the Premiership action this weekend ahead of the international break. It also means Saints fans will get a belated first look at their team under new boss Simo Valakari. The Finn was appointed as Craig Levein's successor this week and faces a tough first test in the dugout.
