Arsenal have confirmed that Kai Havertz has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Gunners' injury crisis deepened this week when it emerged that Havertz suffered a torn hamstring during the club's training camp in Dubai. Mikel Arteta is already without long-term crocks Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli. And the Premier League title hopefuls have announced today that Havertz will have to go under the knife - leaving Arteta worringly short of options up front.
A club statement read: "We can confirm that Kai Havertz has sustained a hamstring injury during a training session in Dubai last week.
"Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days. Soon after surgery, Kai will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season.
"Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible."
Arsenal were handed a title boost last night when leaders Liverpool fell to a late 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. The North London club still trail Arne Slot's pacesetters by seven points with 14 games to be played, but Raheem Sterling, Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard are now the only recognised attacking options Arteta has at his disposal.
