Nothing’s CMF Phone 2 Pro is an affordable phone with a unique modular ecosystem

The CMF Phone 2 Pro from Nothing is a new phone with a 6.77 inch, 120 Hz AMOLED display, a battery that should provide a full day of run time or more, and a camera system that includes a 50MP primary camera, 50MP telephoto camera, and 8MP ultra-wide camera. The phone also supports modular accessories that attach to the back of the phone, including interchangeable camera lenses and a wallet & kickstand.

But the CMF Phone 2 Pro is also a relatively inexpensive smartphone. Prices start at £219 in the UK or €249 in Europe for a model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Customers in the US can buy an 8GB/256GB model for $279 through Nothing’s beta program.

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro processor, which is a mid-range processor that Nothing says offers “10% quicker processing and a 5% improvement in graphics” over the Dimensity 7300 chip used in last year’s CMF Phone Pro 1.

That’s not a big performance boost, and the new phone also has an updated design that means the only accessory designed for the first-gen phone that’s compatible with this year’s model is a lanyard. So if you’ve already got a CMF Phone Pro 1 then there’s probably not much reason to upgrade.

On the other hand if you’re in the market for a new phone, the 2025 model brings a few key upgrades. Its rated IP54 for water protection (up from IP52), and has an upgraded camera system (the telephoto and ultrawide cameras are both new).

The primary 50MP camera has a 1/1.57″ image sensor, a 24mm focal length equivalent, and support for phase detection autofocus. The 50MP telephoto camera supports 2X optical zoom (or up to 20X digital zoom) and features a 1/2.88″ image sensor and 50mm focal length equivalent. And the 8MP ultrawide camera has a 1/4″ image sensor, 15mm focal length equivalent, and 119.5 degree field of view.

On the front of the phone there’s a 16MP 1/3″ camera with a 22mm focal length equivalent.

Other features include a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging, a display that supports up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, and a body that measures 7.8mm thick and weighs 185 grams. The CMF Phone 2 supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and 5G and features an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

The modular add-ons only work if you screw an optional Universal Cover to the back of the phone, which also works as a magnetic adapter that lets you stick the wallet stand, camera lenses, or other accessories to the back of the phone.

The phone comes in orange, black, and white color options in the US, although there also appears to be a green option that may be available other markets.
