Final Fantasy 14: Evercold sets itself a release date at the tail end of winter, alongside offering a look at its second, avian-inclined new job
Bird is the word
· Rock Paper ShotgunLet's start with the bad news: Final Fantasy 14: Evercold has been delayed. The good news, that doesn't matter all that much, as it's only a delay of roughly a month, and a release date has been set in stone too: February 23rd, 2027. It's cutting it a bit close to the seasons shifting towards spring, making the game seasonally inappropriate, but hey ho, February is still winter!
That release date was revealed during this week's Final Fantasy 14 Fest Fest held in Tokyo. It was paired with a big ole cinematic that'll open up the expansion when you do actually get to play it. You can watch that down below if you fancy, that'll just depend on whether you want to go into the expansion knowing as little as possible. Looks pretty at least! I like the big dragony ship we've seen previously.
The expansion's second new job has been revealed too. It's called Zephyr, a physical ranged DPS that uses a crossbow and comes with its own avian familiar to assist you in battle. Seems like a pretty good option for folks afraid of getting in close but want to get some damage in. The bird friend you get is neat too. I hereby request that every other job gets a bird friend! I don't care if it doesn't make sense!
Most annoyingly, for me personally as someone that's only managed to play A Realm Reborn and doesn't really have time to go through a ridiculous number of hours and expansions just to get to this one, a preview for the Evangelion collab alliance raid was shown off rendered in the style of the original anime's post-credits, next episode teaser reels. I love those dang big robots and feelings of depression, don't make me go through all those expansions just to let my Viera dress up as Asuka or whatever loot you end up getting.
Anyway, don't forget to mark your calendars, February 23rd! Be there or be, uh, anywhere else I guess. I'm not your boss.
