To get Gaza deal, Trump played 'raw politics', ex-Biden advisor Robert Malley says
· France 24Malley expressed skepticism about the rest of Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza's future governance, saying, "The only points that really matter and the only points that we believe are going to be implemented" are the ceasefire, the release of prisoners and hostages, humanitarian assistance, and Israeli withdrawal. He added, "Neither Hamas nor Israel really wants to do all of them. Hamas doesn't want to disarm, and Israel doesn't really want to see an international stabilization force." Malley also noted, "I would be quite surprised if the rest of the plan unfolds as written."
From peace process to catastrophe
The former US official, who co-authored “Tomorrow Is Yesterday: Life, Death, and the Pursuit of Peace in Israel/Palestine” on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was critical of America's role in mediating peace. "The US was biased in favour of the more powerful of the two parties," he said. Malley argued that "the peace process ... ended up serving as cover for the perpetuation and worsening of the status quo," adding, "It failed, and it led to the catastrophe that we're living today."
