Rubio confirms release of journalist Shelly Kittleson
American journalist Shelly Kittleson, who was kidnapped from a Baghdad street corner last week, was released Tuesday, US and Iraqi officials said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Kittleson's release in a statement early Wednesday. He said on X, “We are relieved that this American is now freed and are working to support her safe departure from Iraq.”
Rubio thanked Iraqi authorities, as well as the FBI, US Department of Defense and other US agencies for their work toward securing Kittleson’s release.

Albanese criticises Trump's threats, welcomes US-Iran ceasefire
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described US President Donald Trump's threat to destroy Iran's civilian infrastructure as not "appropriate" on Wednesday but he welcomed a two-week ceasefire as "positive".
"I don't think it's appropriate to use language such as that from the president of the United States, and I think it will cause some concern," Albanese told Sky News Australia.
"We have called for is a de-escalation, and that is what has occurred, and that's a good thing," he added.

Tehran said Wednesday its 10-point plan for securing an end to the war with the United States would require Washington to accept its uranium enrichment programme and the lifting of all sanctions.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he has agreed "to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks."
Trump said he spoke to leaders in Pakistan, which has been a mediator between Washington and Tehran and which had sought a two-week ceasefire in the Iran war.
"Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks," Trump wrote on social media.
"This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE," Trump said.
