World Cup 2026: Sweden make statement with commanding victory over Tunisia

· France 24

Sweden's clinical finishing and well-organised defence proved too much for Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico, on Sunday, as the Nordic side stormed to a 5-1 victory in their Group F encounter. Yasin Ayari's early strike in the seventh minute after a scramble in the box set the tone, before Alexander Isak added a second in the 30th minute with a composed finish from distance.

Tunisia showed resilience to pull one back through Omar Rekik's unmarked header just before half-time, but Sweden reasserted control in the second period with Viktor Gyökeres capitalising on a defensive lapse in the 59th minute. Mattias Svanberg added a fourth in the 87th minute, pouncing on a loose ball inside the box. Yasin Ayari struck again in stoppage time, powering a shot into the right corner to seal a 5-1 victory for Graham Potter's side.
