Yet another surfer has been attacked by a shark in New South Wales, Australia.

This time, it was a 39-year-old man (identity as of yet revealed) who was in the water at Point Plomer in the mid-north coast of the region. Details are scarce surrounding the incident as of now, but it appears the attack happened early Tuesday morning.

The surfer’s board showed distinct teeth marks, and he was taken for bite wounds.

Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive, Steve Pearce, who has had his hands full over the past couple of days with the excessive amount of shark encounters said:

"The area is known to have some shark activity up there," he told the ABC. [He's] very fortunate to not have sustained any serious injuries."

This most recent attack comes after a rampage of others – first a child was bitten while swimming in the Sydney harbor; then an 11-year-old was chomped while surfing at Dee Why (where Mercury Psillakas was killed by a great white last September); and a man in his 20s was mauled while surfing at North Steyne beach. All within two days.

Regarding the latter incident, the man is reportedly in critical condition. A Good Samaritan who assisted in the rescue of the 20-something victim recounted:

“My mate put him on his board and was pushing him into shore and there was blood on the board and I was trying to pull them to help out. The guy was silenced from the pain, but still conscious, and I kept telling him to not look at his leg and we just kept paddling.”

So, why are shark attacks raging currently in NSW? Well, it’s likely bull sharks that are responsible, and it probably has to do with the weather. Pearce continued:

“We have such poor water quality that’s conducive to bull shark activity. We have two people critically injured in hospital this morning. Just go to a local pool, because at this stage, we’re advising that the beaches are unsafe.”
