Rob and Michele — who got married in 1989 after meeting while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally... — were discovered on Sunday afternoon by their youngest child, daughter Romy, 27. Per a statement from the LAPD, at approximately 3:40 p.m. police responded to a call of a death investigation and found the deceased, who were identified as the longtime couple.

"As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide," the statement read. "The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths. Nick was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning to potentially be formally charged, but as The New York Times reports, Nick's attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters at the courthouse that his client had not been medically cleared to be transferred from the jail to the courthouse and that there would not be a hearing.

Later that day, the L.A. County District Attorney announced that Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the murder of his parents. If found guilty, Nick could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Nick could also face the death penalty, which has been under a governor-imposed moratorium in California since 2019.
