J&K Cabinet Passes Resolution For Restoration Of Statehood, CM Omar Abdullah To Meet PM Modi

The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet has passed a resolution demanding the restoration of statehood and Omar Abdullah will present it to PM Modi.

The Omar Abdullah cabinet has passed a resolution for the restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Minister will hand  over the resolution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per sources. 

The cabinet held its first meeting on Thursday, a day after the oath-taking ceremony, at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. During the meeting, Abdul Rahim Rather of the National Conference was chosen as the Protem Speaker of the assembly.  

The meeting was attended by senior officials and cabinet members and later in the day, Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary led a delegation to meet Omar Abdullah at his residence in Gupkar.

Party Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Political Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and senior NC leader Rattan Lal Gupta were among the key political figures present at the meeting. 

In his first public message after assuming the office, Abdullah highlighted his government’s commitment to ensuring smooth governance with minimal disruption to public life. “I have spoken to the DG @JmuKmrPolice. There will be no ‘green corridors’ or traffic stoppages when I travel by road. Public inconvenience must be kept to a minimum, and the use of sirens will be limited,” he posted on X.

He also stressed the importance of respectful conduct by public officials, directing his cabinet to avoid aggressive behaviour. “Our conduct must remain friendly. We are here to serve the people, not to inconvenience them,” he asserted.

On Thursday, Abdullah Mulwarwan village in Kishtwar district where a major fire charred several houses and pledged more relief for the rehabilitation of the devastated families.

The massive blaze consumed most of the residential houses, leaving over 100 families homeless ahead of the harsh winter. The CM, accompanied by his Deputy reviewed the damage and interacted with the victims, reported PTI.
