Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found murdered under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout on Sunday, according to police officials. The 68-year-old retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, a native of Champaran in Bihar and a 1981 batch officer, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storied house.
His body, which bore injuries allegedly caused by a sharp weapon, was found by his wife Pallavi, who subsequently alerted the authorities, officials said.
According to news agency PTI, senior police officers rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. The body has been sent for an autopsy, and a forensic team is assisting in the investigation.
Wife’s Role Suspected In Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash's Murder
Police have detained his wife in connection with the case, India Today reported.
Initial findings point to foul play, and police suspect the involvement of a close family member, possibly linked to a domestic dispute. According to news agency IANS, sources revealed that Om Prakash had been stabbed three times, and a knife suspected to have been used in the murder has been recovered from the residence. The police sources also told IANS that the murder took place against the backdrop of a family dispute. According to them, the police are currently suspecting the involvement of his wife
Preliminary investigations also indicate that Prakash had expressed concerns about threats to his life to some close associates in the recent past. His wife and daughter have been questioned by the police, PTI reported.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand, speaking to news agency ANI, said, “Today afternoon around 4 to 4:30 pm, we got information about the death of our former DGP and IGP Om Prakash. His son has been contacted and he is giving a complaint against the incident, and based on that, an FIR will be registered. After the case is registered, a detailed investigation will be carried out. Immediately, there are no arrests. Initial investigation suggests that things might be internal in nature. It seems that some sharp weapon has been used, which caused so much blood loss that it led to death.”
