The byelection for the Wayanad parliamentary seat coincides with the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections on November 13. Meanwhile, the Nanded Lok Sabha seat and the Kedarnath assembly constituency will hold byelections on November 20, aligned with the Maharashtra assembly polls and the second phase of the Jharkhand elections.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who chose to retain the Rae Bareli seat. The Nanded Lok Sabha seat became vacant following the death of MP Vasant Chavan. Similarly, TMC MP from Basirhat, Haji Sheikh Nurul Islam, recently passed away. Rahul’s sibling Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to contest from Wayanad.
