The Manipur Police arrested three individuals from Delhi, for making calls impersonating Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah and demanding money from MLAs "in exchange for ministerial posts" in the conflict-torn state. The scamsters reportedly tried to extort Rs 4 crore for each post.

The three were brought to Imphal on Tuesday for further legal action.

According to a report by India Today, an FIR has been registered, and the police have invoked Sections 318(4) for cheating and fraud and 319(2) for impersonation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in their investigation.

The report said that on Tuesday around 8:29 am, the three were brought to Dehradun via Delhi by Imphal police led by Sub-Inspector Farooque Sheikh on an Indigo flight in connection with the case.

The three fraudsters have been identified as Priyanshu Pant (19) from Mayur Vihar Phase III in Delhi, Uvaish Ahmed (19) from Etah in Uttar Pradesh and Gaurav Nath (19) from Delhi's Ghariapur, according to India Today.

Manipur police officials stated that the department conducted an investigation and initiated legal action after calls were received by MLAs and leaders, including state assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. They were duped by the fraudsters who claimed to be the Union Minister’s Home Minister’s son.

The suspects tried to influence and mislead the legislators by exploiting the ongoing political situation in the state, as per an IANS report.
