A Naxalite was killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma.

The encounter began in the morning on a forested hill under Errabor police station limits, after a security team launched an anti-Naxalite operation after receiving information about Maoist cadres being present in the area.

An intermittent gunfight is underway, and further details are awaited.

On Sunday, three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the forested hills spanning the Bhejji and Chintagufa police station areas of Sukma.

This takes the number of Naxalites killed in encounters across Chhattisgarh this year to 263. Of these, 234 were eliminated in the Bastar division, comprising seven districts, including Sukma, while 27 were killed in Gariaband district under the Raipur division.

Two more were gunned down in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district in the Durg division.
