During the Mauritius visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a Banarasi saree encased in a Sadeli box to Mauritius' First Lady, Brinda Gokhool, on Tuesday. The Banarasi saree, originating from Varanasi, is renowned for its rich silk fabric, elaborate brocade designs, and luxurious zari embroidery, symbolising cultural elegance and tradition.

The gifted saree featured in a royal blue shade with intricate silver zari motifs, a broad zari border, and beautiful crafted pallu, making it suitable for weddings, festivals, and grand celebrations. Accompanying the saree was a Sadeli box from Gujarat, known for its detailed inlay craftsmanship, designed for storing valuables like sarees, jewelry, or keepsakes.

In addition, PM Modi gifted Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool a brass and copper pot filled with sacred Sangam water from the Mahakumbh, along with the nutrient-rich superfood, makhana, according to a report by news agency PTI.

PM Modi As Chief Guest At Mauritius National Day Celebrations

Prime Minister Modi participated as the Chief Guest at the Mauritius National Day celebrations, and emphasised the deep diplomatic and cultural ties shared between the two countries. According to an official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi expressed appreciation for the warm reception during a special lunch hosted by President Gokhool and reaffirmed India's dedication to strengthening its bond with Mauritius.

"It is once again my privilege to attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as the Chief Guest," PM Modi said. "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon'ble President for this warm hospitality and honour. This is not just an occasion for a meal but a symbol of the vibrant and close ties between India and Mauritius."

Emphasising the deep-rooted connections between both the nation, PM Modi said, "The Mauritian platter is not only rich in flavours but also reflects the country's diverse social fabric. It embodies the shared heritage of India and Mauritius. The warmth of Mauritian hospitality carries the sweetness of our friendship."

Extending best wishes to President Gokhool and his wife, PM Modi stated, "On this occasion, I extend my best wishes for the excellent health and well-being of His Excellency President Dharambeer Gokhool and Mrs Brinda Gokhool; for the continued progress, prosperity, and happiness of the people of Mauritius; and reaffirm India's commitment to our enduring relationship."
