The security forces on Tuesday gunned down two terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara as they foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control. Search operations are still underway.
The operation was launched after the Army noticed suspicious movement along the LoC last night. A statement by the Indian Army stated: "Two terrorists have been killed along the Line of Control (LoC) near Machil and Dudniyal in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara."
There was a brief exchange of fire between the two sides during the search operation, the officials said.
"In the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army troops witnessed some suspicious movement along the Line of Control and fired towards it in the evening, around 7 PM. Operations are continuing in the area. More details awaited," a statement from Indian Army officials noted.
Security Beefed Up Along LoC Ahead Of Winter To Curb Infilitration
The Border Security Force (BSF) has ramped up surveillance along the LoC in Kashmir as winter approaches, anticipating a spike in infiltration attempts from across the border. The heightened alert comes amid intelligence inputs suggesting that militants are gathering at multiple launch pads outside Indian territory, waiting to slip into the Valley.
“Generally, it has been seen that there are increased attempts of infiltration before the winters. Keeping that in mind, we have put our jawans and officers on alert and have heightened our vigilance on the border,” Additional Director General of BSF, Satish S Khandare, told reporters in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday during the Wular 2.0 Marathon.
While refraining from confirming exact numbers, Khandare noted that reports point to “our neighbouring country making some launchpads across the border.” He stressed that the danger of cross-border infiltration is constant, but assured that the BSF and the Army remain vigilant and fully prepared to counter any attempt.
“We are fulfilling our responsibilities very well,” he added.
