The time has arrived.

After months of build up and one serious delay, former Heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Mike Tyson, will return to professional competition at 58 years of age after retiring in 2005. His opponent will be none other than social media superstar Jake Paul, who continues on his quest to become a legitimate professional boxer. I’m not sure this step sideways versus a retired Tyson goes far in proving himself, but it will make Paul and Tyson an exorbitant amount of money.

One way or another, this will go down as one of the biggest combat sports events of the year. I personally have been texted by multiple friends and extended family members who generally want nothing to do with boxing or combat sports. Two figures in pop culture throwing down on Netflix? There’s no way it’s not massive ...

Let’s see what happens!

Live updates will begin to flow below the moment the two fighters make their way to the Octagon ...

Round One

Tyson surges forward early, showing off the trademark head movement. He lands an early left, but Paul wisely clinches to slow his older foe’s offense down. Paul opted to move his feet, clinch often, and throw the occasional jab in the first minute. Paul settles a bit at the midway point, and he starts landing the jab. A Paul right hand soon follows, and Tyson looks a much slower by the end of the round despite a few lands.

10-9 Paul

Round Two

Paul takes a right hand to the torso early then follows it up with a 1-2 upstairs. Tyson scores with a hook. A Paul uppercut seems to momentarily knock Tyson’s mouthpiece loose, but “Iron” wears it well. Paul flicks a few jabs and feints. Tyson isn’t throwing enough for my liking, and he’s struggling with Paul’s range advantage.

10-9 Paul

Round Three

Tyson charges forward to start the third ... right into a overhand. A left hook from Paul wobbles the knees of Tyson, and he follows up with more left hands. Tyson’s knees aren’t bending, and he looks like a sitting duck after getting stunned. Paul isn’t pushing his advantage too heavily, but the shots are still adding up. This is getting one-sided as Paul lands another left hook on a stranded Tyson ...

10-9 Paul

Round Four

Tyson is stuck in the mud, standing still as Paul pokes at him with straight punches. Paul’s body work is scoring well, as he takes jabs and right hands towards center mass. Throughout the whole round, Tyson doesn’t throw much, because he cannot track his bigger, younger foe down.

10-9 Paul

Round Five

Strong early lands for Paul, who times a 1-2 and uppercut-left hook well. Paul is completely comfortable, controlling the pace and picking his shots. That said, Tyson does time a nice left hook counter, his first significant land in a while. More right hands up and down the body score for “The Problem Child.”

10-9 Paul

Round Six

Paul’s jab continues to peck at Tyson, who tries to counter with a left hook but just keeps coming up short. It feels like Paul is carrying Tyson through these rounds rather than really pressing for the KO. Paul is hanging back, content to work behind the jab and occasionally throw an overhand that feels less than full speed. Either way, Tyson looks toast, and this fight could be stopped.

10-9 Paul

Round Seven

Tyson shows some life early, landing with his lead hand. Paul is unbothered and pops some jabs. The crowd is restless, but Paul continues to poke at his opponent rather than press his advantage. Paul lands a clean 3-2-3. It’s another dominant round, and mercifully, there’s only one more to go.

10-9 Paul

Round Eight

Thankfully, Paul didn’t heat up in the third. Tyson lands one or two more punches before being rendered defensive. Paul lands mostly jabs and a right hand or two, and the bout concludes when “El Gallo” bows to his legendary foe before the bell. Ultimately, it wasn’t the most fun fight, but at least we didn’t have to see Tyson suffer serious damage in defeat.

10-9 Paul

Official Result: Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson via (80-72, 80-72, 79-73)
