Real Madrid Star Suffers Season And Club World Cup-Ending Injury, Reports COPE

A Real Madrid star has suffered a season-ending injury that will also keep him out of this summer's reimagined Club World Cup according to COPE, which cited anonymous sources.

Eduardo Camavinga came on as a substitute for David Alaba at half time on Wednesday night, as Madrid faced Getafe in a La Liga fixture.

Towards the end of the 1-0 win granted by Arda Guler’s early strike, the Frenchman went to the turf after trying to start a counterattack but clashing with the opposite team’s player Luis Milla.

The incident left Los Blancos with just 10 men in El Coliseum because head coach Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t allowed to make any more changes.

Following the victory that kept FC Barcelona’s lead at the summit to just four points, the Italian said that “we’ll have to see tomorrow” about Alaba and Camavinga.

“Both are suffering from discomfort in their legs… [something] muscular, I think. It is difficult for them to recover in time for Saturday,” Ancelotti added, in reference to a Copa del Rey cup final meeting with Barca.

On Thursday morning, though, Madrid has confirmed through an official club statement that “after the tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga by the Real Madrid Medical Services”, the 22-year-old “has been diagnosed with a complete rupture of the tendon of the left adductor”.

The club didn’t specify a recovery time and instead finished its correspondence with the usual “pending evolution” phrase.

According to popular Spanish radio station COPE, however, Camavinga has bid “adios” to the rest of the season.

Furthermore, the midfielder isn’t expected to play any part in this summer’s Club World Cup that has been reimagined by organizers FIFA and offers lucrative paydays for participation and getting far in the tournament.

If estimates and reports are correct, we shouldn’t see Camavinga in action again until the 2025/2026 season starts, which might mean he has played his last game under Ancelotti.

Though the manager has a contract until June 30, 2026, he is being linked to the vacant Brazil national team head coach role while there are also rumors that Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso will replace him in the Bernabeu dugout.
