Report Reveals How Big Lady Gaga Role Will Be In ‘Wednesday’ Season 2
by Tim Lammers · ForbesLady Gaga is joining Jenna Ortega in Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix—but will it be in a significant role? A report is shedding some light on the question.
News broke on Wednesday, appropriately, that Lady Gaga—who most recently starred opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the box office bust Joker: Folie à Deux—was cast in the second season of the blockbuster Netflix series.
Season 1 of Wednesday remains the most-watched TV series in English in Netflix history with 252.1 million views, which equates to more than 1.7 billion hours viewed. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with iconic director Tim Burton aboard as the series’ key director, Wednesday made Ortega a global superstar.
While details of Lady Gaga’s role in Wednesday Season 2 were not revealed, Variety reported on how big the pop superstar/actor’s role will be.
According to the Variety report, “Sources say it will be a cameo during the megahit Netflix show’s second season, which is currently filming in Ireland. Sources say that the production team had tried to get Gaga on the show for a larger role in Season 2, but that ultimately did not work out.”

Variety noted that Lady Gaga’s representative declined to comment and Netflix hasn’t responded to its request for comment.
Of course, a cameo role can certainly be more than a walk-on part, as proven by Danny DeVito’s surprise cameo appearance in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Playing a character simply billed as “Janitor,” DeVito was featured in a full scene with Monica Belluci, who plays Beetlejuice’s (Michael Keaton) vengeful ex-wife, Delores.
Lady Gaga Ties To Wednesday Goes Back To Season 1
Per Variety, Jenna Ortega’s iconic dance scene in Wednesday Season 1 became a massive sensation on TikTok when it was remixed to Lady Gaga’s hit “Bloody Mary.”
As such, Variety asked Ortega before the Golden Globes ceremony in January of 2023 if she would welcome Lady Gaga to Wednesday for Season 2, to which Ortega responded, “I’m sure Netflix would love that.”
Ortega told Variety that it was “really strange” how the dance scene/Lady Gaga remake blew up on TikTok, and then added a sweet story about the A Star is Born Oscar-winning songwriter.
“You know what’s funny? A long time ago I worked with a hairdresser that worked with Gaga and I just had seen Gaga in concert a few years before,” Ortega recalled for Variety. “[The hairdresser got] Gaga [to make] me a video saying she heard I was a fan. Gaga made me a sweet video. I doubt she remembers. But to see her do that now … it’s one of those moments you realize life changes really fast.”
When Variety asked Ortega in 2023 what type of role Lady Gaga should play on Wednesday if she were cast in Season 2, Ortega noted it should be a role akin to the dynamic of Wednesday Addams and Miss Thornhill (Christina Ricci).
“If Lady Gaga were to be a part of it, they’d have to be two monsters who understand each other.”
In addition to Joker: Folie à Deux and A Star is Born, Lady Gaga has starred in the films House of Gucci and Machete Kills, as well as two seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story.
Wednesday Season 2—starring Jenna Ortega and featuring Lady Gaga in some capacity—is expected to be release on Netflix sometime in 2025.
