FC Barcelona boss Hansi Flick reacted to his team being hammered 4-2 at Osasuna in La Liga on Saturday night by saying "we made a lot of mistakes".

For the first time this season, Flick rotated players and with that came the Blaugrana's maiden defeat in 2024/2025.

Going into the match with a four point lead over bitter rivals Real Madrid, the Catalans could see the advantage reduced to just a single point if Los Blancos beat crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid in a derby on Sunday night.

In his post-match comments, Flick admitted that it "wasn't a good game" with "too many mistakes" made, especially in the first half.

"We made a lot of rotations and maybe it was one of the reasons, but they were necessary. There are many games in this stretch of the calendar and some players had accumulated many minutes," said the German, defending his decision to rest key players such as Raphinha and Lamine.

"I have to be responsible, on Tuesday we have a very important match [in the Champions League]. We are on the right track," he insisted.

"After the international break we will recover several players, and then we will have more options to choose from in each game. The many rotations are not an excuse, because we had no alternative," Flick also said.

"If you take a look at the squad right now, we have only three midfielders and a centre-back playing as a midfielder. It is not easy, but we accept it."

Though there is no point crying over spilled milk, Flick stated that he felt like his team could have won in El Sadar "if we had played well from the start".

"In the second half you saw that when we played well and moved the ball, we created chances," Flick said, while refusing to criticise the officiating.

"From what I was told, there could have been a foul at the start of the play of his second goal, but the referee has decided that it was not. It's part of the past and I don't want to think about it anymore," he stressed.
