Srinagar, June 10: Jammu and Kashmir Police have disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service in Baramulla district following his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police, SPO Khalid Nazir Khan, a resident of Katipora in Tangmarg, was removed from the SPO cadre with immediate effect after his name surfaced in an NDPS case.

A police spokesperson said the action stems from an incident on April 23 when a police team conducting naka checking at Wussan Crossing in the Kunzer area intercepted a vehicle. The occupants, including the SPO, were found in suspicious circumstances during the inspection.

During the search, police recovered syringes, needles and silver foil paper allegedly used for the consumption of narcotic substances, the spokesperson said.

Following the recovery, a case was registered under Sections 8, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act and an investigation was initiated.

“In view of the serious nature of the allegations and conduct unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force, the SPO has been disengaged from service with immediate effect,” the spokesperson said.
