CCTV Issues in Police Stations to Be Resolved Soon, Centre Assures SC
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Apr 7: The Centre on Tuesday assured the Supreme Court of India that all issues related to the installation and functioning of CCTVs in police stations across the country would be resolved within two weeks.
Attorney General R Venkataramani informed a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that the matter was being actively reviewed and significant progress was underway.
The Union Home Secretary appeared before the court in compliance with its April 6 order, which directed his presence to assist in the effective implementation of the CCTV installation scheme in police stations.
The top law officer assured the bench that regular meetings with the amicus curiae and concerned officials would be held to ensure that all pending issues are addressed within the stipulated two-week period.
The bench listed the matter for further hearing on April 28. The apex court was hearing a suo motu case concerning the lack of functional CCTVs in police stations. (Agencies)
