Kolkata, May 9: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday took oath as the first Chief Minister of West Bengal from the Bharatiya Janata Party, marking a historic political shift in the state. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

Senior NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other top BJP functionaries, were present at the event, underscoring the significance of the moment for the party.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Suvendu Adhikari paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary before the ceremony.

The development marks the BJP’s first-ever government in West Bengal, ending decades of dominance by regional parties in the state’s political landscape.
