SHIMLA, Aug 8: Seven passengers were killed and 11 others injured after a private bus overturned and plunged onto a lower road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 7:15 am near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road, when the bus was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba, they said.

The ill-fated bus met with the accident on the 27-kilometre mountain stretch through the remote Churah Valley, a route known for its narrow roads and steep drop-offs. The road is also a key link towards the high-altitude Sach Pass.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot following the accident and launched relief operations. The injured were shifted for medical treatment, while further details about their condition were awaited.

SP Chamba Vijay Saklani said the exact number of passengers travelling in the bus at the time of the accident was not yet known.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the bus overturning and plunging onto the lower road. (Agenices)
