J&K: 39 Amarnath Pilgrims Injured After Bus Skids Off Road in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Jul 28: At least 39 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured after a speeding bus skidded off the road and crashed into a house in the Kangan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, officials said.

The accident occurred at Hariganwan when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The bus rammed into a house, causing extensive damage to the structure. However, the impact prevented the vehicle from plunging into the Sindh River, averting a potentially major tragedy. No one was inside the house at the time of the accident.

Officials said the injured pilgrims were returning after offering prayers at the holy Amarnath cave shrine. Local residents, assisted by security personnel, immediately launched a rescue operation and shifted all the injured to hospital for treatment.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal and health officials to review the condition of the injured pilgrims.

In a post on X, Sinha said all 39 devotees injured in the accident at Ganiwan, Ganderbal, were undergoing treatment at SKIMS after returning from the Amarnath Yatra.

The Lieutenant Governor directed health authorities to provide the injured with all necessary assistance and ensure the best possible medical care.

“I pray to Lord Shiva for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,” Sinha said. (Agencies)
