Union Cabinet approves continuation of NHM for 5 more years

Union Minister Piyush Goyal, briefing reporters about the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting, highlighted the significant achievements of the NHM over the past decade. He noted that the Mission has met historic targets, contributing immensely to India’s healthcare sector.
Goyal further emphasized that the NHM played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring that nearly 12 lakh healthcare workers were added to the Mission between 2021 and 2022. This expansion of the healthcare workforce was vital in India’s battle against the pandemic.
The continued support for NHM reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services across the country, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
