J&K: Budha Amarnath Pilgrim Dies of Cardiac Arrest in Poonch

POONCH/JAMMU, Aug 21: A 68-year-old pilgrim from Bihar undertaking the Budha Amarnath Yatra died of cardiac arrest after developing chest discomfort at a lodging centre in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh Prasad, a resident of Belaganj in Gaya district of Bihar.

According to officials, Prasad complained of chest discomfort during the intervening night of August 20 and 21. He was subsequently brought to District Hospital Poonch at around 12:15 am for medical attention.

However, he died at the hospital, officials said, adding that the cause of death was recorded as cardiac arrest.

The Budha Amarnath Yatra, an annual pilgrimage in Poonch district, was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Jammu on August 17.

The pilgrimage is scheduled to continue till August 28. Authorities have made arrangements for the safety and well-being of pilgrims during the yatra, which draws devotees from different parts of the country.
