Cabinet Approves Union Budget 2026–27

NEW DELHI, Feb 1: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday approved the Union Budget for 2026–27, paving the way for its presentation in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Following the Cabinet’s nod, Sitharaman will present her ninth Budget, a record, amid global economic uncertainties and a slowdown in exports. This will be the third Budget of the BJP-led NDA government in its third consecutive term.

Sitharaman, who in her first Budget in 2019 replaced the traditional leather briefcase with a red-cloth-wrapped ‘bahi-khata’, will present this year’s Budget in a paperless format as well. (Agencies)
