Srinagar, Oct 31: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine die by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, bringing to a close a nine-day session that saw the passage of key government bills, election of four Rajya Sabha members, and extensive legislative activity.

During the session, the House passed five government bills and held discussions on two private members’ resolutions. The Assembly Secretariat received 732 questions, of which 682 were admitted; 29 were taken up for discussion and 73 supplementaries were raised by members.

The proceedings also featured 97 Zero Hour issues, 67 calling attention notices (10 discussed), and 14 private member resolutions, of which only one was passed. Of the 41 private bills listed for discussion—including 14 new and 33 pending from previous sessions—only eight were debated, with most either withdrawn following government assurances or defeated by voice vote.

The session, which was largely smooth, saw a brief disruption when BJP legislators staged a walkout after Speaker Rather rejected an adjournment motion by Udhampur MLA Pawan Gupta, seeking a debate on the plight of flood victims.

Concluding the session, Speaker Rather thanked all members for their cooperation, saying, “I thank all members for their support in conducting the proceedings of the House smoothly.” (Agencies)
