Army Jawan Assaulted at Meerut Toll Plaza, 6 Arrested

Meerut, Aug 18: An Army jawan was allegedly assaulted by toll plaza employees in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district while returning to duty, officials said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Bhuni toll plaza in Sarurpur area, where the jawan, Kapil of Gotka village, was on his way back after leave. His car got stuck in a long queue, following which he asked toll staff to clear vehicles faster. An altercation ensued, and employees allegedly thrashed him, police said.

Based on a complaint by the soldier’s family, a case has been registered. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said six people were arrested after their involvement was confirmed through CCTV footage. Efforts are on to nab other accused.

The incident has sparked outrage locally, with demands for stricter action against toll plaza mismanagement. (Agencies)
