Sukhbir Singh Badal Injured in Knife Attack in Nanded; One Detained

NANDED, Aug 13: Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was injured in a knife attack in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place around 1:45 pm when a man allegedly attacked Badal with a knife while he was visiting Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat, according to officials.

Police detained one person in connection with the attack and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Badal was rushed to a private hospital for treatment following the attack. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

A video circulating on social media showed Badal walking inside a building with a cloth wrapped around his right hand.

Earlier in the day, Badal had visited Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded along with his wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is an Akali Dal Member of Parliament.
