2 dead as Truck plunges into gorge on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Banihal/Jammu, June 28 — Two persons were killed after a truck skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Saturday, officials said.

The accident occurred in the Nachilana area when the truck, heading to Srinagar from Jammu, went out of control and plunged into the gorge. Both the driver and the helper died on the spot, according to a police official.

The deceased have been taken to the Sub-district Hospital in Banihal for medico-legal procedures. The driver has been identified as Raju, a resident of Udhampur.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
