5 IAF Personnel Killed in AN-32 Crash in Assam

New Delhi, June 13: Five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed when a Russian-origin AN-32 transport aircraft crashed in Assam’s Jorhat during a routine sortie on Saturday morning.

According to the IAF, the accident occurred around 10 am. “The Indian Air Force deeply regrets the loss of five personnel in the An-32 accident at Jorhat,” the force said in a statement.

The aircraft was on a routine operational sortie when it met with the accident. The IAF said it stands firmly with the bereaved families and extended its deepest condolences.

The deceased have been identified as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveer Vayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveer Vayu Danish Alam.

Further details regarding the cause of the crash are awaited, and a court of inquiry is expected to be ordered to investigate the incident, officials said.

The AN-32 transport aircraft has been widely used by the IAF for logistics and transport operations, particularly in difficult terrain and remote locations.

The Air Force said all necessary support is being extended to the families of the deceased personnel in this hour of grief. (Agencies)
