SC Seeks Centre, Jharkhand Govt Response On Plea For CBI Probe Into JPSC Exam

NEW DELHI, Aug 24: The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre, Jharkhand government and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) on a plea seeking an independent and time-bound CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana issued notices to the Union of India, Jharkhand government, JPSC and other respondents on the petition.

Senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, appearing for the petitioner, told the bench that the plea sought a CBI investigation or, alternatively, an inquiry by a former Supreme Court judge.

The petition has been filed by activist Harisharan Devgan through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput under Article 32 of the Constitution. It seeks urgent judicial intervention over what it describes as serious concerns regarding the integrity, fairness, transparency and credibility of the examination.

The petition relates to the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Competitive Examination 2025 conducted by the JPSC on April 19, 2026, pursuant to Advertisement No. 01/2026.

The petitioner has sought an independent investigation into the alleged malpractices and irregularities, contending that the matter requires a probe outside the state machinery to ensure credibility and public confidence in the recruitment process.

The Supreme Court’s notice seeks responses from the concerned authorities on the allegations and the demand for an independent investigation. (Agencies)
