Sixteen Mohali Schools Evacuated After Hoax Bomb Threats
by Northlines · NorthlinesCHANDIGARH, Feb 17: Sixteen private schools in Punjab’s Mohali received bomb threat emails on Tuesday mentioning Fortis Hospital, triggering evacuations and extensive anti-sabotage checks by police. No suspicious or explosive material was found at any of the locations, officials said.
A senior Mohali police official said the threat mails also referred to Fortis Hospital, where searches were conducted. Non-essential services at the hospital were briefly put on hold while essential services continued, he added.
Police teams carried out parallel checks in the targeted schools following evacuations.
Security had already been heightened in and around Fortis Hospital after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was admitted there. He was re-admitted on Monday evening, hours after discharge, reportedly due to exhaustion, sources said.
The scare comes amid similar recent bomb threat emails reported in schools across Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and parts of Haryana, all later declared hoaxes. (Agencies)
