Lok Sabha Adjourned Sine Die After Passing Key Bills; Winter Session Ends
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Dec 19: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Friday, formally bringing the 19-day-long Winter Session of Parliament to a close, Speaker Om Birla announced as the House met for the day.
During the session, which had 15 sittings, Parliament passed several key legislations, including a Bill to open the civil nuclear sector to private companies. Another major Bill replacing MNREGA with the proposed VB-G RAM G Act, guaranteeing 125 days of employment for rural India, was also passed amid noisy opposition protests, including tearing of papers, on Thursday.
The House also held two major debates—marking 150 years of Vande Mataram and on electoral reforms—both marked by intense political exchanges. A Bill to establish a higher education regulator was referred to a joint committee of both Houses, while a Bill on the market securities code was introduced and sent to a department-related standing committee for detailed scrutiny.
Speaker Om Birla said the Lok Sabha recorded a productivity of 111 per cent during the Winter Session. (Agencies)
