Raghav Chadha, 6 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs Quit Party, Join BJP

New Delhi: Raghav Chadha has resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a major political shift that could weaken AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha.

Chadha criticised his former party, saying it had “strayed from its founding principles” and calling it “corrupt and compromised.” “I was a right man in a wrong party,” he remarked.

The development follows his recent removal as AAP’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, indicating a breakdown in ties with the leadership.

Sources said the move could trigger a broader split, with over two-thirds of AAP’s Upper House MPs—around seven members—likely to support Chadha. Among those expected to join him are Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, and Rajinder Gupta.

Chadha, once a prominent face of AAP’s national expansion beyond Delhi and Punjab, played a key role in the party’s parliamentary strategy.

His exit, along with a possible group defection, signals deepening internal divisions within AAP and could significantly impact its position in the Rajya Sabha.

For the BJP, the development is seen as a major boost, strengthening its numbers in the Upper House. Formal announcements regarding the switch are expected in the coming days.
