Two IAF Pilots Killed As Sukhoi-30 Fighter Jet Crashes In Assam

GUWAHATI, Mar 6: Two Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots were killed after a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district during a training mission, the IAF said on Friday.

The aircraft had taken off from the Jorhat air base on Thursday evening and crashed about 60 km away in the hilly terrain of Karbi Anglong.

“IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash. All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” the force said in a post on X.

A defence spokesperson in Guwahati said the wreckage of the aircraft was located early Friday after a search operation.

According to the official, the IAF search and rescue team, assisted by civil and police administration as well as local villagers, trekked to the crash site and located the debris around 1 am. (Agencies)
