Iran Opens Fire On Container Ship In Strait Of Hormuz, Tensions Escalate

DUBAI, Apr 22: Iran’s paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, damaging the vessel and heightening tensions after ceasefire talks in Pakistan failed to take place.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, the incident occurred around 7:55 a.m., when a Guard gunboat targeted the ship without prior warning or communication.

The UKMTO reported that no injuries were recorded and there was no environmental damage resulting from the attack.

Iran has not officially acknowledged the incident so far.

The development follows recent escalation involving the United States military, which seized an Iranian container ship after opening fire over the weekend and boarded an oil tanker linked to Iran’s oil trade in the Indian Ocean. (Agencies)
