Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IB Chief to review security situation in J&K
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, Jan 14: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka and other senior officials arrived in Jammu on Wednesday for a two-day visit to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid fresh infiltration attempts and increased drone activity along the borders.
Officials said the high-level meeting is being held in the winter capital to assess the overall security scenario in the Union Territory, with a special focus on recent Pakistani attempts to push infiltrators across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), besides incidents involving drones.
“The meeting will be held at the police headquarters in Jammu. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special DGP S.J.M. Gillani, J&K Home Secretary Chandrakar Bharti, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, heads of Central Armed Police Forces and other senior officers will attend the review meeting,” officials said.
The Union Home Secretary and IB Director are also scheduled to visit the International Border before returning to New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
Officials said that anti-terror operations in Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur districts will be discussed in detail during the meeting. These operations are expected to receive special attention as terrorists have managed to escape despite multiple encounters with security forces in these areas.
They further said there are intelligence inputs suggesting that terrorists are camping at launch pads on the Pakistan side of the border, waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate.
The Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have maintained a high alert along the LoC and IB to foil infiltration bids. “Anti-infiltration measures and further strengthening of the Anti-Infiltration Grid are also expected to be reviewed,” officials added.
The visit comes less than a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in J&K on January 8 and directed a mission-mode approach to dismantle terror infrastructure in the Union Territory. (Agencies)
