LG Sinha Pays Tribute to General Zorawar Singh on Martyrdom Day
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, Dec 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday paid rich tributes to General Zorawar Singh, describing him as India’s greatest warrior, commander and military strategist, on his Martyrdom Day. He said General Zorawar Singh’s vision had inspired generations with courage, purpose and commitment to higher ideals.
Speaking at a commemorative event in Jammu, the Lt Governor highlighted the legendary commander’s historic military campaigns across Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit and Skardu, and underscored his decisive role in the expansion of the Dogra Empire.
Calling upon the youth and society at large to draw inspiration from Zorawar Singh’s message, Sinha urged people to work with moral clarity and conviction to build a better future and empower the marginalised. “Let us dedicate ourselves to changing lives, guiding and supporting youth and building a more just and peaceful society,” he said.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to honour the icon, Sinha noted that the Government of India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had named an advanced indigenous light tank after General Zorawar Singh. He added that a General Zorawar Singh Chair had been established at the University of Jammu to encourage academic study of his campaigns and vision.
Those present included MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa; Devinder Singh Kaluria, Chairman of the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Education and Charitable Trust; trustees Riya Kaluria and Diksha Kaluria; Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), President of the J&K Ex-Services League; and Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma. Also in attendance were Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.), Padma Shri Dr SP Varma, Col Karan Singh (Retd.), ex-servicemen and senior Army, civil and police officials.
